Meet Russell, Founder of IRONBACK
At 17 years of age, I was representing New South Wales Rugby when a single tackle changed the course of my life.
As I hit the ground, another player landed awkwardly across my back, fracturing my L4 vertebra and ending my rugby career.
The years that followed introduced me to the realities of injury, rehabilitation and recovery. Working closely with physiotherapists, chiropractors and healthcare professionals, I experienced first-hand the challenges of rebuilding confidence in movement and returning to an active life.
What frustrated me most was the lack of practical, comfortable solutions that could support movement without restricting it.
That frustration became an obsession.
Over the next decade, I dedicated myself to developing what would become IRONBACK—a wearable performance and rehabilitation platform designed to support shoulder stability, movement awareness and physical readiness.
As the product evolved, so did its purpose.
Feedback from athletes consistently highlighted increased awareness of movement, greater shoulder stability and improved confidence during training and recovery. Those insights reshaped my vision and reinforced my belief that IRONBACK could play a meaningful role in both performance and rehabilitation environments.
Today, IRONBACK is being evaluated by athletes and practitioners across multiple sporting codes, with one simple mission:
To help people move with greater awareness, recover with confidence and perform at their best.
For me, IRONBACK has never just been a product.
It's the result of a personal journey that began with injury, was driven by determination and continues to be shaped by the athletes and professionals who believe there is always a better way to move.
